Abstract

In this first Diabetes-focused issue of SMART-MD Journal of Precision Medicine, our authors highlight important clinical considerations in delivering diabetes care. The need for precision medicine for diabetes is increasing as the variability within the classic types of diabetes is now appreciated.  Attention is needed to recognize and treat multiple forms of diabetes, including (but not limited to) monogenic diabetes, cystic fibrosis-related diabetes, and pancreatogenic diabetes. The critical role of experts with deep knowledge of these subtypes of diabetes being dedicated to write clear guidances for practicing physicians is a key step in delivering the best medicine to the right patient now.
